Ziskin, who became the first woman to produce Academy Awards telecast in 2002 alone was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 3 in 2004.
In May 2008, Ziskin, with Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the Noreen Fraser Foundation and Ellen Ziffren, announced the creation of Stand Up to Cancer. The initiative, held fundraisers televisedfund in 2008 and 2010, is designed to enable cutting-edge research aimed at all types of cancer managed by "dream teams" of doctors.
