Doc Ock octopus legs villain stole the show on the effects of Spider-Man 2 and helped the film won an Oscar for visual effects. So what would be the Oscar-winning director Sam Raimi and visual effects supervisor Scott Stokdyk invent for Spider-Man 3 the best? Three villains, two of Sony Pictures Imageworks created new techniques with state of the art computer graphics.

"We have had unique challenges to those we have never met before," said Stokdyk, who led a team of 270 at Image Works, which created 930 shots. Beyond Image Works, Evil Eye Pictures BUF, Furious FX , Gentle Giant Studios, Giant Killer Robots, Halon Entertainment, Tweak Films and X1fx also contributed to the Spider-Man 3 visual effects.

Last of the three Spidey villains are in the New Goblin, Sandman and Venom. Harry Osborn (James Franco), sometimes the best friend Peter, who inherits his father's villainy is the New Goblin. To fight the fire that fly between the elves and the new Spider-Man, Imageworks created digital doubles of Franco and Maguire in which are placed the images captured the faces of the actors with a motion control system developed by John Schmidt.

Sandman and Venom characters are CG. Sandman in his human form is difficult and brutal Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church) who becomes a shapeshifter, after being accidentally sprayed. "We Sandman character was the best combination of particle effects in animation of the characters," says Stokdyk.
